Environmentally Friendly Spa Days? | Environmentallyy Friendly Spa
There has long been a conflict between living a sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle, and still indulging in life’s luxuries. We don’t want to pollute the atmosphere with CO2, but still want to take our holidays to Barbados every year and keep our houses warm and cozy in the winter. We don’t want to fill up landfill sites, but can’t resist those luxury biscuits that come in a tin and five layers of packaging inside. We don’t like to waste water, but a hot bath at the end of a long day just feels too good.
Thankfully we are starting to realize that we don’t have to give up on all of life’s luxuries in order to save the earth, and improvements in technology and innovation have allowed us to do more than ever whilst keeping a clear conscience. One such luxury that has not always been so ‘green’ is spa days. These intensive pampering sessions have received a lot of criticism over the years for their harmful impact on the environment, but now you can go on spa days that are a little kinder to mother nature. Here are 3 ways that health spas are going green:
Green Products.
Whilst the skin care and beauty products used by health spas are often very good, they are not always good to the earth. Synthetic ingredients, harmful bi-products and animal testing are just a few of the ways products can be harmful, but thankfully there are good alternatives these days. Producers of all-natural skin care and beauty products have upped their game recently, and largely due to increased public demand, there is a far greater range and level of quality for health spa products.
Green Energy.
Most health spas often encompass a scary number of energy-consuming devises and environments. Saunas, Jacuzzis, swimming pools, steam rooms etc, they are burning large amounts of fuel and don’t do any good for the planet’s CO2 levels. More health spas though are now waking up to green energy, both creating it from renewable sources and improving the efficiency of its use. Here are some examples of how health spas are reducing energy usage/loss:
• Solar panels on roofs
• Recycling of hot air from pools, steam rooms etc
• Better insulation in spa areas
• Movement sensor switches on lights
Green Waste.
Health spas are notorious for producing large amounts of waste. Water is wasted at an incredible rate via ‘back-washing’ the pools to remove sentiment and also via constant laundry washing. Much of this waste water can actually be reused if put through the proper filters and many spas can make their money back within a couple of years by saving on water costs. The other big wastage is the packaging and containers that beauty products and are delivered in. Some spas are recycling these by handing them back to the suppliers after each delivery and asking them to be reused, saving both money and unnecessary landfill.
So with all these green initiates that many health spas are signing up to, you can still enjoy your massage, without feeling guilty about your impact on the planet.

Your House Can Make You Sick!
You’d be forgiven for thinking that people in the Western World live in relatively good conditions – but I bet most people didn’t know that around 40% of homes in the UK, Canada and across the EU are infected with damp and toxic mould. If you’ve moved home lately chances are you’ll have encountered at least one nightmare property infested with mould. But most people aren’t even aware of the problem. Many people don’t even notice damp in its early stages as it is hidden in corners behind furniture or even inside the walls.
Health problems
There are a number of frightening health issues caused by damp in the home. Many times people get hayfever-like symptoms as a result of damp – watery eyes, sneezing and nasal congestion. But a recent study also showed it can cause asthma in children and certainly make things work for asthma sufferers. There have also been cases of serious respiratory illness arising from damp. Another recent study even revealed a connection between mold and depression!
Causes
How, then, does this fungal intruder enter your home? Well the first thing to say is a bit of mould is entirely normal and can be found everywhere. However the major problems start when it’s left untreated and allowed to spread.Mold occurs when there too much moisture in the atmosphere and it has nowhere to escape.Water collects in the atmosphere from places like the bathroom, as well as condensation on windows. But it needs to go somewhere!Inadequate ventilation sometimes occurs because builders don’t take care to properly damp proof a new house.Another cause is when a house lacks proper air vents. And the more we are concerned about saving energy these days, the more we are tending to lock the air – and moisture – into our homes.
Dealing with damp
I hope I’ve managed to convince you that the threat of mold is a problem that shouldn’t be ignored – we should all be worried about preventing it. It’s not just for people who already have damp problems.Left unchecked it becomes a lot harder – and costlier – to deal with. Here are some top tips on how to avoid damp buildup in your home or workplace:
- Dry up any build up of condensation you notice around the house within 24-48 hours.Don’t forget – mold cannot survive without water in the atmosphere.
- Ensure that you get proper ventilation in the building to give moisture an escape route. If there aren’t proper air vents to the outside, get them installed.
- Consider getting insulation put in on cold surfaces prote to attracting condensation – such as piping, windows and roofs.
- It’s well worth considering investing in one of the many dehumidifiers out there to remove moisture from the atmosphere. Certain portable air conditioners also do the job, with the added bonus of keeping you cool in the summer.
- Know your rights.Once mold problems get serious they can cause serious problems that could cost you a lot. Find out from your home insurance to see if your policy covers mold damage. Tenants should push their landlords to have a professional damp inspector visit and assess the house.
The Many Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
It is well known that apple cider vinegar can treat joint pain. While apple cider vinegar often acts as the natural body detoxifier, it is also use for treating the joint pain, high blood pressure or digestive problems.
When acid crystals begin to harden in the joints and tissues of any animal, the joints become stiff and the tissues hardened. The meat turns tough and tasteless. But, when the animals are given apple cider vinegar regularly as part of their diet, the precipitated acid crystals enter into a solution and pass out of the body smoothly, thus making the body tissues healthier and tender. This also apply to human flesh.
When body tissues hold all the precipitated acid crystals, the crystals then appear in the bursae and the joints of the body, resulting in common illness such as arthritis and bursitis. Have 1 to 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar added with 1 to 2 tsp of raw honey is a good home remedy. This natural detox juice helps in the relieve of the body ache and joint pain. Try it and you can be the judge. See how elastic your joints will become.
Organic apple cider vinegar, raw honey and distilled water cocktail are a good enemy to acid crystals. This powerful mixture keeps the acid crystals in solution form so they can be flushed out of the body by the kidneys and other organs of elimination naturally.
Many people have some preconceived idea that natural apple cider vinegar is harmful to the body especially the stomach. Note that the harmful one is the distilled, malt and synthetic vinegars. This natural juice will not in any way be harmful to your body at all!
