Quizzes on Global Warming

Welcome back, if you haven't already, you might want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Global warming is taking its toll on the world. How much do you know about global warming? Taking a global warming quiz can let you see just how much you know about global warming while allowing you to find ways to help prevent global warming. There are several facts that may surprise you about global warming.

For instance did you know that while natural forces are partly to blame for global warming that people are responsible as well? This piece of global warming trivia is something that is often overlooked. Our own creation of greenhouse gases is contributing to the continued warming of the planet.

When it comes to global warming the fact that China is the largest contributor of greenhouse gases is something else that isn’t very well known. What planets conditions are thought to be the result of too many greenhouse gases? This is another of the global warming trivia questions that are difficult to answer off hand.

Global warming trivia even extends to the appliances and fixtures in the home. Individual energy consumption can be reduced from sixty to eighty percent by changing a light bulb. Why is knowing this important? There are over a hundred thousand deaths around the world every year due to changes in the atmosphere from global warming.

A global warming quiz can test your knowledge about carbon dioxide and other deadly effects of global warming. Even if all greenhouse emissions were stopped immediately it would still be at least one hundred years before the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was completely gone. There would be decades after the last emission that the effects where felt.

Animals are facing extinction due to global warming and the effects are beginning to be felt in everyday life. Droughts, heat exhaustion, and pollutants are all effects of global warming. The melting ice is contributing to the warming effects by taking away natural cooling methods. Even malaria is believed to increase as the effects of global warming increase.

An interesting fact about global warming is that planes give off fewer pollutants at night than during the day. So by flying at night you can actually reduce your impact on the atmosphere. Another interesting fact is that hybrid cars don’t always get better gas mileage than traditional cars. Global warming costs everyone money since insurance companies pay more out in claims due to disasters, food becomes scarce and crops are not sustainable in some regions.

Brushing up on global warming trivia and taking a global warming quiz can assist you in finding ways to help save the environment.

Being Environmentally friendly by building your own wind generator

Using a DIY generator you will cut cost and be more environmentally friendly. Cust electricty charges and have the government pay you when you utilize natural wind power. When you build your wind generators two the key factors are wind velocity and how consistent the wind is.

Position your wind turbine within a consistent wind flow path that has speeds of about nine miles an hour to ensure that the wind you collect will be able to convert. The towe should be made of a very strong wood or steel and must be build away from the building. The blades must be positioned at a specific pitch angle to depending on your needs.

Surf the web as there are many sites which offer information and special offers to help you build your wind generator or maybe a solar power system, they will let you know exactly what materials are required. The cost of the overall installation is generally low and a unit will often pay for itself in savings in just a short time.

To avoid damage to your wind generator in strong winds and storms you may want to consider designing the blades to be collapsed when needed.

Use the internet to search for information about being green and maybe look at solar power systems.

There is so much information available to help you make your decision and get more indepth information about environmentally friendly energy solutions. Why not think about harnessing the power of the sun and set up a solar power system. Environmentally friendly homes are the way forward. Take a stand now for a greener planet, whether it is installing alternative green energy systems or recycling. Environmental options have grown over the years which will allow all of us to be a bit greener.

Go Green Today, don’t forget to be environmentally friendly.

Kerbside Recycling Collection Recycling Facts

Watch This Video Giving the Recycling Facts About Kerbside Recycling

One of the seldom considered recycling facts is that the waste you as a householder recycle in boxes and wheelie bins is not only a single type of recyclable material.  It’s a mix of a controlled number of materials.  It is what is known as “segregated”, that’s it is still a mixed waste, and each collection authority sets different rules as to what is allowed’mixed’ in each recycling container provided.

That means the materials you recycle in fact have to be further sorted after collection, by the collection authority or waste company.  For example one of the recycling facts you should consider is how it is that the box or container you are provided with for recycling glass and tins, which might also be mixed with plastic bottles and other re-usable plastic boxes, is further sorted.

If you think about this recycling fact you’ll realize that each container you put out for your bin men to collect will need to be sorted and separated again before it can be sold on to the factory where the recycled material will be used as a raw material.

In this video we have tried to show you the recycling facts about one superb way in which these co-mingled recyclates are sorted at the kerbside by the binmen ( waste collection agents ) and then really deftly, safely, and efficiently loaded into the collection vehicle without them getting mixed up again.

Watch the video to see the way in which the collection hoppers on the side of the collection car are raised to fill the collection car.  It is another of the obscure recycling facts that by doing the sorting of householder recyclates this way at the kerbside the collection authority may be ready to avoid the capital and running value of a MRF ( Materials Recivery Facility ).

So, there it is, one of the seldom considered recycling facts is that the waste you recycle in boxes and wheelies is what is called’co-mingled’, that’s it’s still mixed and each collection authority sets different rules as to what is permitted to be co-mingled in each recycling container provided.  It might simply be too complicated and uneconomic to expect each househoulder to hold a new container for every recyclcable material.

That implies the materials you recycle in fact need to be further sorted after collection, by the collection authority or waste company.  As an example one of the recycling facts you should consider is the way in which the box you provide for glass and tins, which might also be mixed with plastic bottles and other re-usable plastic boxes is further sorted and separated before it can be sold on to the factory where the recycled material will be used as a raw material?

It’s also another of the little known recycling facts that by doing the sorting of householder recyclates this way at the kerbside the collection authority could also be able to avoid the capital and running price of a
MRF (Materials Recycling Facility).  Take a look at that site by clicking the link – it is totally full of recycling facts about the waste technology wanted to recycle the raw materials in the waste that we all produce.  The rationale for doing it is to reduce man’s effect on our planet for the good of future generations, our youngsters, and grandkids.

Toilet Seats can now reduce waste

kohler c3 toilet seat

Many new high tech toilet seats replace traditional toilet seats and make this ancient device more environmentally friendly. Now, the modern toilet seat can have the option of a small water sprayer and have sensors that detect when rears are approaching, an anti-microbial finish, and many more features including stylish design. The greenest feature helps reduce the need for toilet paper (companies boast up to 75 percent less), prevent clogged toilets with its bidet-like self-washing feature, and use less water. Less toilet paper also means less environmental drain.

While cutting our toilet paper use isn’t remotely romantic, it can save loads of paper from ending up in your local city’s sewer. Cutting back each American’s use of over 20,000 sheets of toilet paper yearly would definitely reduce waste and save trees. Also, some toilet papers are sprayed with fragrance that, even in small amounts, add chemicals to the environment mixing with water and soils. Your pondering, what about hygiene? A full anti-bacterial wash is more sound than just wiping away what remains when your business is done?). If it helps prevent environmental damage a fresh wash clean for the rear can’t be all that bad. In the following situation, less is more: less waste, more environmental preservation.

How can your existence alter on your toilet?Very little as you can clearly see.You rush into your bathroom & sit down on a warm toilet seat that matches your contours just right. Once finished, you press a button for a rear or feminine wash and you are gladly met with a warm, aerated water spray. You can dab dry from a smaller amount of toilet paper or dry yourself with the warm breeze blowing from it’s internal fan. You exit your bathroom fresh as a daisy as the auto-closing lid slowly lowers avoiding the annoying “Slam”.

Their are many companies (Kohler, Toto, etc..) that carry these high-tech toilet seat (also known as a seat bidet) that utilizes two retractable water wands to provide a fresh and hygienic cleansing of the underside. Most new seats will easily replace your old seat. More than just a small improvement, this futuristic heated seat produces a warm water wash with temperature, pressure, and pulsation adjustability.

I see toilet paper becoming part of your history class in the future.  Now that you don’t consume toilet paper you can now focus on improving your bathroom accesories rather than your silver polished toilet paper holder.

Help do your bit for the polar bears by visiting Polar Bear city!

Churchill is on the shoreline of the west coast of Canada. Over the past few years this has become one of the most sought over environmental holidays. However does this mean that it is threatened by the change in climate?

Churchill has become extremely popular and famous around the world, mainly because of the polar bears that travel inland during autumn. These polar bears head inland and invade local towns and villages such as Churchill to find refuge. The fact that there are so many polar bears coming to here, means it has adopted the name, Polar Bear capital of the world. This has helped boost the tourist industry around the area, and now tour operators offer Canada tours dedicated to this area, to show people the stunning environment.

Churchill is also a very rare area; this is because it is an Ecotone. When two or more very different environments are in close proximity, this is known as an Ecotone. Basically it stands on a border between three very different environments. To the southern region is the Boreal Forest, towards the north west you will find the Tundra like conditions, and directly to the north is the Hudson Bay area. This is one of the best locations in the world to see the Aurora Borealis. Not only does this area have all the se attributes, it is also home to the Beluga whales in summer, over 57,000 of them, and has a very extensive amunt of bird fauna that cover the whole area.

Churchill has become extremely reliant on the tourism industry, but how long will it be able to support tourists. If the environment experiences a harsh change then this area will become desolate, the animals will have to migrate somewhere else. This will cause the tourist industry to crumble. Canada holidays benefit greatly from this environmental phenomenon, but how much longer will it last. Alaska Cruises also circle round to this area, so maybe that holiday is better sooner rather than later.

Reasons To Consider Home Solar Panel Installation

Home solar panel installation is steadily becoming more popular here in the US and in other developed countries throughout the world. If you are still living entirely on the grid then perhaps home solar panel installation is something you might wish to consider at some point in the near future. There are actually numerous benefits to investing in home solar panel installation.

The Environment

Burning fossil fuels to produce electricity creates greenhouse gases and contributes to global warming. If every homeowner had home solar panel installation, the use of fossil fuels to produce electrical power would be greatly reduced, perhaps even eliminated. In areas that are subject to power outages due to heavy usage, homeowners with solar panels don’t have to suffer the inconvenience of going without electricity, perhaps for hours. It is possible for many homeowners to live completely off the power grid, some can even sell excess power back to the utility company.

What’s In It For You

Some people have reservations about home solar panel installation because they are convinced that it is too expensive. First of all the cost of home solar panel installation is set to drop in the near future. When it comes to living on the grid the opposite is true. If you are living on the grid then you will no doubt have noticed a massive increase in your monthly electricity bill during the past five years or so. Given that fossil fuel supplies are beginning to run low and environmentalists are exerting pressure, the cost of grid electricity is only going to increase in the future. Who knows how much it will cost to live entirely on the grid ten years from now. One thing is for sure, the cost of living on the grid will surpass the expense of home solar panel installation very soon if current tendencies are any indication.

Government Incentives For Clean Energy

The United States government, and the governments of many states recognize the environmental and economic benefits of reducing the use of fossil fuels. There are federal and state tax incentives for home solar panel installation. There may also be low cost government sponsored loans available for homeowners that participate in home solar panel installation. Add to this the reduction in cost of your utility bills, and solar panels become an investment in your future. When you consider the added environmenta! l benefits, purchasing home solar panels becomes an investment! in preserving the planet and mankind’s future. With the escalating cost of fossil fuels and the diminishing supply, the cost of electrical energy will continue to climb. Save your money with home solar panel installation.

Woody Harrelson: The Actor and the Activist

When the name Woody Harrelson is spoken, you might think of the movie White Men Can’t Jump. Or does the movie No Country for Old Men come to mind? A movie about a raving lunatic that shoots Woody Harrelson’s character, Carson Wells, and almost everyone else in the movie.

Woody Harrelson Trivia can really open up some really interesting facts about him. For example, did you know that Woody Harrelson started out with the name Woodrow Tracy Harrelson? When he began acting, he simply went by his nickname, Woody.

And while taking the Woody Harrelson Quiz, you would find out that he was born in Midland, Texas on July 23, 1961. He later moved to Lebanon, Ohio with his mother and brother. His father was convicted of the 1979 shooting of a federal judge John H. Wood Jr. Before he was convicted, Woody’s father was a freelance contract killer. He died in jail.

Not letting his father’s past life get in the way of his dreams, Woody got a bachelor degree in Theater Arts and English. He did was married once for 9 months to Nancy Simon. Then he later married his present wife in 2008, Laura Louie. They have 3 children together. He is most noted for the TV show, Cheers. That is where he made is career start. He was nominated for 5 Emmys, but he only won one.

As you know he went on to acting, but acting is not his only influential work. He lives his activist life with just as much passion as he does acting. Because of his popularity, he is able to bring activist issues to the surface like never before. When he speaks, everyone not only listens but watches.

A Woody Harrelson Trivia game can really show you his life work. Not only is he an environmental activist, he is avid supporter and activist for marijuana and hemp legalization. Yes, that’s right; Willie Nelson isn’t the only one fighting to legalize the cause.

To make a point and be heard, he did many outlandish things. He biked across country to the west coast with hemp oil. In protesting against Charles Hurwitz, he grouped up with members of North Coast Earth First and unraveled a banner that said, “Hurwitz, Aren’t ancient redwoods more precious than gold?” These fun facts can all be found in a Woody Harrelson Quiz and make you say, “He Did What?”

Being Environmentally Friendly

Being environmentally friendly is the way forward and goverments are promoting this more and more every year.” Homes are traditionally known as energy cows. By wasting electricity or water will in turn wast money and reserves. Going green can help not only the world but the homeowner as well. Insulation comes standard with most of all new build homes, always make sure this has been set up correctly by the builders.

If you have an older home this may not be the case. Insulation was not generally added to homes built before the 1940’s. Homeowners with an older home should check to see if their home is insulated.

Cavity wall insulation is normally the most common type of insulation. In the case of most homes insulation can easily be injected into the cavity between the two outside walls. Insulation will stop the conduction of heat into or out of your home and save the power you have traditionally used to heat or cool your home. Sometimes heat insulation in countries such as Japan,

America, and the UK is funded by local power companies, so homeowners are urged to contact their power provider before installing insulation. Turning Out the Lights Another simple way to save the environment and homeowners’ money is buy turning out the lights. More and more people are turning to the option of solar panels to help them save the planet and money.

Homeowners have been told for years that turning out lights when they leave a room will greatly reduce their power bills. But how many homeowners follow this advice? According to many studies only a small percentage of homeowners turn out lights when they leave the room. It is unfortunate as turning out the lights is easy to do and will save energy and money. Always research the information you require as there are thousands of energy reviews, home energy review may be the one you need to look at.

It is a fact that a high number of familieshardly use all the rooms in their house. If the lights are switched off when you leave a room it could save you a very considerable amount of money. Turning On the Lights Of course, you cannot live in the dark and you must have your lights on sometime.

Companies have recognized this need to balance the use of electricity and the need to preserve the environment and are now producing environmentally friendly light bulbs. These bulbs use a smaller percentage of electricity every time they are on in the home. They also last longer therefore producing less waste.

Don’t forget to Flush Water bills rank right up there with power bills when it comes to both homeowners’ expenses and protecting the environment. Bathrooms are notorious for wasting water.

Along with things homeowners and their families can do to save water, like not running water while brushing teeth, there are devices on the market to help save water in the bathroom.

Several companies are making low flow shower heads that reduce the amount to water that comes from the shower every time it is turned on. These shower heads are inexpensive and easy for the homeowner to install. Toilets also waste water and devices can be purchased and installed that lower the flow and fill level in all toilets. Having these products installed will reduce the wastage of water.

You will be very suprised at the various options available to start going green. Why now start by recycling. Check out the recycling facts you will be suprised.

Plastic Shower Curtains vs Eco-friendly Shower Curtains

In recent years people have started realising the importance of saving the environment any way they can. With that in mind, many house owners have started incorporating the “green” movement in their homes. It is therefore a no brainer to comprehend the fact that shower curtains even your lovely mickey mouse shower curtain hooks, especially those made from plastic, also can be changed. Take a few minutes to read about some of the recommendations you can consider.

The terrible thing about plastic shower curtains is that they tend to emit some not so ozone friendly gassing. They are particularly at their worst when they are fresh from the store. Let us delve right into our topic for the day.

Buying yourself a hemp shower curtain, especially if you live in a dry area, is a good idea. My reason for saying only those living in drier areas should consider this is because it takes a longer time to dry.

Due to the amount of time it takes for it to dry up, it is possible for it to start developing some mold and may require regular washing. As you probably know continuous washing is not good for the fabric. Check your local store or buy online for about $90.

My best recommendation is for you to buy one made from cloth and not plastic. You can easily find a nylon one that dries quickly and machine washable. You can buy yourself a nice fabric at $20, which comes with a very tight weave and repels water perfectly fine. I prefer this one from Hemp because it is capable of drying faster and repels mold growth better. You can pick any color you want and any style like a croscill royal paisley shower curtain  or simply find online companies that sell red shower curtains of your choice. Just make sure it fits well with your bathroom deco.

If you can’t part with plastic then you can buy a plastic shower curtain that don’t have the smell and are made to been “green”Another option is to simply buy yourself a plastic shower curtain that are made to be greener.

Is Off Grid Solar Power the Answer For Your Home?

Using off grid solar power has gotten a lot easier now, with recent improvements in technology and an increased concern about the environment.

Once limited to people who lived in remote places where electricity was either expensive, inconvenient, or impossible, off grid homes are now moving closer to civilization. Taking your home off the municipal power grid is less expensive and easier than it has ever been, and solar power is the most common way to do it.

In a setup like this, you will need:

  • solar panels
  • a regulator
  • batteries

An inverter allows you to use AC power instead of DC, and most systems have computerized control centers to make it easy to monitor what’s going on in your system. Whether or not your home is right for off grid solar power will depend on your location and how your home is situated.

It is important to be able to get enough hours of sunlight per day to charge your batteries with all the power you need.  In southern latitudes with mostly clear weather, this can be pretty easy. However, farther north, or where there is often a lot of cloud cover, this can be trickier.

Before you start installing an off grid solar system you should evaluate if your home receives enough sunlight to merit one. If not, you may wish to look at other sources of green power, such as wind.

There’s a limit to how much power can currently be produced from the sun. Solar panels are costly and you need plenty of space.  This means that most people in off grid situations need to carefully monitor their usage to make sure that they are not overtaxing the system. When you’re off the grid and you’re out of power, you’re really out of power, after all.

However, most people are able to reduce their power requirements to the point where they can meet their energy production and they always have plenty of stored energy for their daily routines.

Off grid solar power is a great choice if you want to be more self reliant, are concerned about the sustainability of your power generation, or if you just want to be able to control things a little more.

It will save you money in the long run, though initial setup can be costly. You won’t have to worry about rate hikes or inconsistent service.  It’s all in your hands.  In return, you must learn to take care of your system and adjust your life accordingly.  For many people, it’s worth it.
